CONTEXT

Lifewire is a tech information and advice site that answers questions in the most simplified format. This was the 3rd brand created by former About.com. The project was already in progress when I was asked to join the team. I stepped in midway to help explore the homepage designs and stayed with the team until the site was launched. The underlying structure of the site matches Verywell so the initial task was to re-skin the templates for this new brand. However, the homepage had to be a unique experience that captured the essence of what we believed Lifewire was and does for the users.

Brand attributes the site design should reinforce:

  • Everyday tech for everyday people

  • Makes life better (not more complicated)

  • Trusted and capable

  • Up to date, never stale

  • Plainspoken and genuine

  • A 360 degree view of life with technology

  • Empowering

  • Friendly and approachable

design principles

  • Ask: does this make life better?

  • Anticipate the new

  • Tech for humans, not dummies

  • No tricks or stunts

  • Ads are organic

  • It’s not about us

  • Bust silos, build connections

  • A solved problem deserves a treat

  • Mobile first
